Faves and Discoveries 2018 // Part II.

Filme & Serien // movies & series

My family is always questioning how I have the time to watch so many movies and series. To be honest, I don’t really know how I do it either. But like the Netflix junkie that I am, I obviously saw a lot of new films and series this year, too. Because of the huge amount of content I watched, it was very hard to narrow it down to just a few. I tried to make the impossible possible for you guys, though!
So here are four of my movie and series highlights of the year. They were emotional, hilarious and intriguing!

I. Call Me By Your Name

I saw this film in cinema twice. I only read the book afterwards. To be honest with you, I enjoyed the book even more than the movie, which also means that it made me cry more.
Nevertheless I must say that the film was extraordinary in my opinion.
The summerly atmosphere, the breath-taking images and the very sensitive music really got to me and put me right into that one summer back in the 1980s.
I really felt the love and desire between Elio and Oliver, oh boy.
Therefore I can recommend both reading the book and watching the movie.

II. The End Of The F***ing World

At the beginning of the year the turbulent end of James’ and Alyssa’s world came to Netflix. The two of them run away, because Alyssa can’t bear living with her mum and stepdad anymore and James is planning his first murder, deciding that Alyssa is going to be his victim. A road trip of a different kind starts.
I confess, I had a big crush on both of the main character’s actors, but I also thought the story was really unique and intriguing.
By the way, the series is based on a comic book by Charles S. Forsman that I haven’t read (yet).
I definitely would watch the series again, but I am a bit sceptical about the second season that was announced last spring.

III. The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air

What can I say? I’ve missed out on a lot of amazing shows in the nineties, but in 2018 I managed to catch up a little, watched this cult-series and fall in love with it.
This show played a significant role when it comes to making Will Smith famous and it made me obsessed with him too.
It simply was the sitcom of the year for me; it made me laugh and it made me cry and in the end I didn’t know what to do with myself or with my life.
Throughout all the six seasons it was a mystery to me, how Will managed to combine hippie and hood style and still look so freaking cool.
How I only thought of watching the show last year, I don’t know. But in case you’ve never seen it, or if you are thinking of re-watching it – do it!

IV. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

In 2018 war dies To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, die Netflix-Verfilmung des gleichnamigen Buches von Jenny Han.

Although I try to stay away from the mainstream, I couldn’t resist it in this case.
Every year I have this one teenage romcom I love and that I could watch non-stop, without feeling ashamed.
In 2018 it was To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, the Netflix Original after the book by Jenny Han of the same title.
I haven’t read the book and its two sequels, but I definitely want to do so this year and I can’t freaking wait for the second movie to come out. It has been confirmed only a couple of weeks ago, yay!
I just lost my heart to Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky and I am very excited to watch their sweet and funny love story unfold further.
